MAGNET POWER SUPPLY FOR THE 7 Gev PROTON SYNCHROTRON NIMROD. PART 2. ROTATING MACHINES

Journal Article · · Proc. Inst. Elec. Engrs., (London)
A part of the power supply for the orbital magnet of the 7 Bev proton synchrotron Nimrod. This machine is the first large accelerating device of the Rutherford High Energy Laboratory at the National Institute for the Research in Nuclear Science, Harwell. A description is given of the operational requirements of the power supply and its design, with particular reference to voltage regulators, to achieve repeatability of pulses; the shaft system, which must withstand the stresses occurring under normal pulsing and during faults; and the overall design of the set to limit the fluctuations of power taken from the grid.
