MINIATURE BOILER TEST. Memo Report 123

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4245444
Tests were run on two miniature bayonet Type 347 stainless steel boilers. NaK at 800 deg F was used to heat the water to 488 deg F (600 psig) which contained the equivalent of 2000 ppm NaK (78% K). The tests were run for 10 days to determine if quantities of caustic of the above magnitude would cause cracking of the tube sheets if a specified boiler water treatment was used. Visual inspection and a mass spectrometer leak test at MSA and preliminary metallographic examination at B & W indicated that the boilers were not adversely affected by operation with this quantity of caustic.
