THE RADIATIVE CAPTURE CROSS-SECTIONS OF GALLIUM ISOTOPES FOR FAST NEUTRONS (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4239741
The reaction T(p,n)He/sup 3/ was used as a source of fast neutrons. At 200 to 1400 kev the neutron energy spread is plus or minus 30 kev and at 1400 to 2000 kev it is plus or minus 50 kev. Bombardment by thermal neutrons was carried out in an experimental reactor thermal column. The cross section for thermal neutron capture by I/sup 127/ (standard used for comparison), Ga/sup 69/, and Ga/sup 71/ are fixed as 5.6 plus or minus 0.3, 1.4 plus or minus 0.3; and 4.0 plus or minus 0.7 barns, respectively. The cross section of radiative capture in Ga/sup 69/ exhibits a smooth relationship to energy, while that of Ga/ sup 71/ drops sharply at approximately 550 kev. The latter effect is induced by inelastic scattering at energy levels of 510 and 610 kev.
