ISOMERIC STATE OF PLATINUM-199

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D
An isomeric state of platinum-199 was produced by thermal-neutron irradiation of normal and enriched platinum samples. The isomer decays with a half-life of 14.1 plus or minus 0.3 seconds by the emission of gamma ravs of 32 plus or minus 2 and 393 plus or minus 2 kev energy. The thermal-neutron activation cross section of Pt/sup 198/ for the formation of the isomer is 0.028 plus or minus 0.003 barn. Tentative level assignments are made, consistent with systematics and shell theory. (auth)
