NEUTRON ACTIVATION CROSS SECTIONS OF Pm$sup 147$, Pm$sup 148$, AND Pm$sup 148$m

Journal Article · · Nuclear Sci. and Eng.
OSTI ID:4819087

The thermal cross sections and the resonance integrals were measured for the activation of Pm/sup 147/ to both Pm/sup 148/ isomers. The thermal activation cross sections are: 124 plus or minus 13 barns to 5.39-day Pm/sup 148/ and 111 plus or minus 11 barns to 40.6-day Pm/sup 148m/. The resonance integrals are: 1700 plus or minus 250 barns to 5.39-day Pm/sup 148/ and 1520 plus or minus 230 barns to 40.6-day Pm/sup 148m/. Approximate cross sections were obtained for neutron capture by both Pm/sup 148/ isomers. The pile cross section of 40.6-day PM/sup 148m/ is 29,000 plus or minus 5000 barns and is due mainly to thermal neutron capture. The pile cross section of 5.39-day Pm/sup 148/ is 3000 plus or minus 2000 barns and is due mainly to resonance neutron capture. (auth)
