THE ROLE OF THE HYPOPHYSIS-ADRENAL SYSTEM IN THE ORIGIN OF REACTIVITY CHANGES OF THE IRRADIATED ORGANISM (in Russian)

The changes of the organism's reactivity following clinical recovery from acute radiation sickness were studied with registration of the activity of the hypophysis-adrenal system. The experiments were staged on 380 white mals rats. The changes of the functional state of the ''nonspecific adaptation system'' occurring after single and repeated x irradiation, are preserved following clinical recovery of rats from radiation sickness. Deviations of the functional activity of the hynophysis-adrenal system depend upon the dosage and the number of irradiations. In instances of moderate increase of incretory activity of the adrenal Coffix with preservation of its functional reserves, there is, in clinically recovered animals. a higher resistance to repeated irradiation and to diphtheritic and morphine intoxication. However, if there are signs observed of functional exhaustion of the hypophysisadrenal system in rats following cliniial recovery, their resistance to repested irradiations, diphtheritic toxin- , and morphine decreases.
