RECOVERY OF ELECTRON-IRRADIATED COPPER. I. CLOSE PAIR RECOVERY
Stage I recovery (14 to 65 deg K) of electron-irradiated, high-purity copper is shown to be composed of at least five substages: I/sub A/, 14 to 24 deg K; I/sub B/, 24 to 28.5 deg K; I /sub C/, 28.5 to 33 deg K; I/sub D/, 33 to 48 deg K and I/sub E/, 48 to 65 deg K. I/sub A/, I/sub B /, and I/sub C/ are recovery are discussed in further detail. I/sub B/ and I/sub C/ are shown to have the characteristics of close-pair recovery. It is inferred that I/sub A/ also has these characteristics. The values of the activation energy for recovery are E/sub A/=O.05 plus or minus 0.O1 ev, E/sub B/ =0.085 plus or minus 0.01 ev, and E/sub C/ = 0.095 plus or minus 0.01 ev. An attempt to relate the observed close-pair spectrum to specific interstitial-vacancy configurations is described. (auth)
