Heating of austenitic sthinless steels containing carbon in solid solution up to temperatures of 500 to 800 deg C causes formation of chromium carbide in the grain boundaries, as a result of which the steel ceases to be resistant io intercrystalline corrosion. The influence of small addiiions of B on the nature of the separation of the carbide phase during tempering and on the tendency of Cr-Mn-N: Steel containing N to intercrystalline corrosion, was investigated.
