Research in the phase equilibria of Nb--Zr alloy systems as a function of composition and temperature is reported. A transformation study of iodide zirconium was conducted at 795 to 947 deg C. A series of Nb--Zr alloys were arcmelted and mounted for microscopic examination. Etchants for as-cast alloys were developed, and hardness data for as-cast alloys were gathered. Hardness data are presented graphically. (J.R.D.)
