A method is given for protecting the graphite of gascooled reactors from corrosion by coolant. The surface to be protected is exposed to Ni carbonyl at room temperature to deposit Ni. A further heating treatment is given in inert atmosphere. The process may be carried out in existing reactors. (T.R.H.)
