ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF FLUORIDE IN SCRUBBER EFFLUENT GASES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4201336
A sample of the gas is passed through a series of absorbers containing nitric acid solution, sodium hydroxide solution, and water. The fluoride absorbed is steam distilled from the solution and determined by titration with thorium nitrate solution using alizarin red S as indicator. The method is applicable to the determination of fluoride in samples of effluent gas from scrubber systems. Concentrations between 0.5 and 25 mg of fluoride per m/ of sample can be determined. Concentrations outside this range may be determined by suitable adjustment of the sample aliquot. (auth)
