DENSITY AND THICKNESS MEASUREMENTS WITH SEALED RADIOACTIVE IRRADIATORS (in German)

Journal Article · · Kerntechnik (West Germany) Merged with Atomkernenergie to form Atomkernenerg./Kerntech.kyu Hokoku
OSTI ID:4196663
The economic significance of density and thickness measurements is briefly reviewed, and the principle of radio thickness gages is described. The absorption of beta and gamma radiation is chiefly used as the effect to be measured. Ionization chambers, scintillation counters, and rarer counter tubes are used for radiation measurements. The ionization chamber in connection with a vibrating condenser amplifier has a wide application. Commercial devices and the results obtained with them are discussed. The plastic, paper, metal rolling, and oil industries use radio thickness gages. (tr-auth)
