Protective action of irradiated bone marrow cells

Bone marrow was subjected to irradiation prior to transplantation. The protection afforded by isologous DBA1, homologous C57BL/6, and heterologous (WR) bone marrow was evaluated by number of mice surviving a lethal dose. It was found that isologous bone marrow cells exposed in vitro up to 950 r exercised some protective effect; homologous and heterologous cells were either not effective, destroyed, or remained capable of reaction against the host.
