THE POLYSULFIDES OF THE RARE EARTH ELEMENTS (in French)

Journal Article · · Bull. soc. chim. France
OSTI ID:4187834
The sulfides of the rare earths and yttrium can fix sulfur and form polysuifides. Those of La, Ce, Pr, and Nd correspond to the formula Me/sub 254/ and are cubic. Those of Gd, Dy, and Y approach the composition Me/sub 2/S/sub 3/ ,80 which appears to be the lower limit of a region of hypothetical homegeneity extending up to the stoichiometric composition. They are quadratic pseudo-cubic. The polysulfide of samarium, although not having the stoichiometric composition, is cubic. It has a homogeneous region connected to a loss of sulfur and shown by a quadratic deformation of the cell. (tr-auth)
