THE SULFIDES Me$sub 2$$S$$sub 3$ AND Me$sub 3$$S$$sub 4$ OF THE RARE EARTH ELEMENTS (in French)

Journal Article · · Bull. soc. chim. France
OSTI ID:4175931
S>The preparation and the crystallographic, magnetic, thermal, and chemical properties of the suifides Me/sub S/sub 3/ of La, Ge, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, and Y are described. Four crystalline varieties are found: alpha (Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, and Gd), beta (La, Ce, Pr, and Nd), gamma (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, and Dy), and delta (Dy, Er, and Y). The cubic gamma sulfides have a range of homogeneity which extends up to the compesition Me/sub 3/S/sub 4/. Metallic properties appear with the first four elements, whereas the saline character persists with samarium and europium because of the existence of bivalent ions. (tr-auth)
