The crystalline structure of the compounds L/sub 2/X/sub 3/ (L = La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, Lu, Y, and Sc, and X = S, Se, and Te) was studied. The seven crystalline types found are briefly described. There is a clear localization of the types. Calculations of the ratio of the anion ionic radius to the cation ionic radius were tabulated but gave no precise limits to the crystalline phases. (J.S.R.)
