HELIUM, NEON AND ARGON ISOTOPES IN SOME IRON METEORITES

Journal Article · · Geochim et Cosmochim. Acta
The cosmic ray produced He/sup 3/, He/sup 4/, Ne/sup 20/, Ne/sup 21/, Ne/ sup 2 2/, Ar/sup 36/, and Ar/sup 38/ were measured in seven iron meteorites with varying helium contents. The results on isotope abundance agree well with previous results. By considering the He/sup 3/ He/sup 4/, He/sup 3/ Ne/sup 21/, and He/sup 3/A/sup 38/ ratios it is shown that it may be possible to determine the depth at which a sample was in the original meteoroid from these ratios, rather than from the absolute amount of any particular isotope.
