ABUNDANCE DISTRIBUTION OF RARE GAS ISOTOPES IN IRON METEORITE TREYSA (in German)

The rare gases He, Ne, and Ar and their isotopic composition were investigated in the Fe meteorite Treysa. The meteorite showed a He/sup 4/ content of es sufficiert t 21 x 10/sup -6/ cm/sup 3//g. an Ar/sup 36/-content of es sufficiert t 15 x 10/sup -8/ cm/sup 3//g and a Ne-content of es sufficiert t 6 x 10/sup -8/ cm/sup 3//g. In dependence of depth the isotoptc ratio of Ar/sup 38//Ar/sup 36/ and He/sup 4//He/sup 3/ varied about 20% in the investi gated disk. This variation of the isotopic ratio may be qualitatively explained by the results of spallation investi-gations on Cu with 0.34 and 2.2 Gev protons and on steel with 0.16, 0.43, and 3.0 Gev protons. Assuming the ratio of the average postatmospheric radius to the average preatmospheric radius of Treysa is 0.44 and the spectrum of the cosmic radiation extends down to 500 Mev, it was found by calculation that the variation of the Ar/sup 38//Ar/sup 36/-ratio will be caused only by the primary component. The variation of the He/sup 4//He/sup 3/-ratio is presumably a consequence of a secondary radiation. The amount of Ar/sup 38/ found in the disk gave a radiation age of es sufficiert t 10/sup 9/ years. (GeoScience Abstr. 2, No. 5, 1960)
