THE EFFECT OF REACTOR TEMPERATURE CHARACTERISTICS ON THE CHOICE OF AN ATOMIC POWER STATION OPTIMAL THERMODYNAMIC CYCLE (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4176648
Temperature variations in nuclear power installations were studied as functions of the reactor power, using two maximum temperatures for fuel element surfaces and centers. An analysis is made of possible thermal and electrical efficiencies in relation to thermodynamic cycle parameters. Formulas are derived for maximum reactor thermal capacity and steam generator efficiency. Descriptions are given of conditions under which the derived formulas can be applied, eliminating preliminary calculations of thermodynamic cycle parameters. The analysis indicates that future possibilities of increasing the parameters and efficiency of nuclear power plants are dependent upon fuel and cladding materials. (tr-auth)
