ON THE HUMORAL COMPONENT DURING THE EFFECT OF BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTATION IN DOGS WITH ACUTE RADIATION SICKNESS

In experiments staged on 9 dogs subjected to x irradiation (600 r) it is shown that the intravenous administration of a suspension of myeloid cells destroyed by repeated freezing 2 days after irradiation exerts a stimulating action on hematopoiesis and alleviates the severity of radiation sickness. This effect is explained by the presence of a humoral stimulating factor in the suspension, inasmuch as with the aid of a number of methods it was established that the suspension does not contain any viable cells of the red, white, and lymphoid series, capable of repopulation in the recipient' s organism. The nature of the stimulating factor is not known. (auth)
