THE PATHOGENESIS OF LIVER DAMAGE AFTER WHOLE BODY X-IRRADIATION

Journal Article · · Folia Biologica (Prague) (Czechoslovakia)
OSTI ID:4169927
The author studied the question of the pathogenesis of fatty degeneration of the liver during the second week after whole-body irradiation of mice and rats with lethal doses of x rays. It was found that direct irradiation of the liver and pest-irradiation sepsis did not influence the development of liver injury. It was further demonstrated that post-irradiation fatty degeneration of the liver was not due to endocrine disturbances, but that glucocorticoids were necessary for its development as mediators. In the last section the author describes experiments in which marked correlation was found between the degree of anemia and the amount of liver fats in mice and rats during the second week after irradiation.
