Investigations were made on late radiation injuries of bones (ribs, femur) with the aid of roentgenological and histological methods. Experiments were staged on 107 rabbits in which the ribs and upper third of the right femur were subjected to a single dose of 6000 r irradiation. Roentgenological and histological investigations disclosed that late radiation injury of the bone tissue by its manifestation and course is of dystrophic nature and steadily progressing it never undergoes reverse development. Dynamic studies were carried out for a period ranging from 1 to 12 months relative to the development of osteoporosis and atrophy of the irradiated bone, fibrous replacement of the bone substance and bone marrow, the formation of necrotic bone foci, reorganization of trabeculae, and structural changes of cellular elements of the bone marrow.
