COMPARATIVE STUDIES OF THE EFFECTS OF X-RADIATION ON MAMMALS AND PROTOZOA. Progress Report, November 1, 1962-September 1, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4158426
Progress is reported in studies of the effects of radiation on cellular enzyme levels in rat tissues after wholebody exposure. A micro method was developed for the determination of deaminase activity and results are reported from applications in studies of the effects of gamma radiation on deaminase activity in rat spleen and thymus. An assay method for desoxyribonuclease inhibitor was developed and applied in studies of some properties of this enzyme in rats. Data are also included from preliminary studies on the effect of ionizing radiation on desoxycytidylate deaminase in rapidly pr iferating tissues; studies on thymidylate phosphatase, thymidine kinase, and thymidylate kinase activities transplantable rat hepatomas; and preliminary studies of the effect of whole-body irradiation on thymidine kinase activity in hepatomas.
