ELASTIC SCATTERING OF ALPHA PARTICLES FROM SILICON $sup 2$$sup 8$

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4154439
The excitation function of alpha particles elastically scattered from Si was observed in the bombarding energy range of 6 to 17 Mev. Fifteen angular distributions were observed in this energy range. The excitation functions are characterized by closely spaced violent anomalies. The angular distributions are rapidly varying and are strongly peaked toward the back angles. Some analyses of the angular distributions have been attempted using the principles of phase shift analysis, the Blair model, and the optical model. Trends in the optical model parameters were noted, and an angular momentum assignment for one compound-system level was made on the basis of these analyses. (Dissertation Abstr.)
