ON THE HIGH ENERGY PROTONS INELASTICALLY SCATTERED FROM C$sup 12$ AND O$sup 1$$sup 6$

In order to explain the resonances observed in the energy distribution of proton inelastic scattering by C/sup 12/, O/sup 16/, etc., in the range 19 to 22 Mev, the possibility is considered that the incident proton acts on the nucleons in the target nucleus through the nuclear interactions, which in tunn contribute to the resonance peak. The t-matrix and nucleonnucleon scattering phase shifts are used, and the calculated results agree fairly well with experimental values. (D.L.C.)
