A measured portion of the sample is evaporated to dryness on a stainless steel counting tray. The beta activity of the residue is measured using standard G-M equipment with a thin end-window counting tabe; the equipment is calibrated against standard strontium-90/yttrinm-90 sources in equilibrium, prepared from solutions of known strontium-90 content. A correction is made to account for the amount of plutonium present and the corrected activity is expressed as dpm strontium-90/yttrium-90. (auth)
