Plutonium is co-precipitated with lanthanum fluoride. The precipitate is dispersed evenly on a stainless steel counting tray and the alpha activity measured using standard alpha -scintillation counting equipment. The equipment was calibrated against standard sources. The method was designed for solutions containing only small amounts of plutonium and uranium, but which contain large amounts of iron and chromium. (auth)
