ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR THE RADIO-CHEMICAL DETERMINATION OF STRONTIUM-89 AND STRONTIUM-90 IN PLANT SOLUTIONS

Radio-strontium, together with added strontium carrier, is separated and the beta -activity measured through an absorber thick enough to absorb the low- energy radiation of the strontium-90. After counting, the source is allowed to stand for three days, and the yttrium-90, together with added yttrium carrier, is separated and the beta -activity measured. The counting equipment is calibrated with sources of strontium-89 and strontium-90 of known activity. Alternatively the source may be counted again after three days without seperating the yttrium.
