The Effect of Zirconium Citrate on the Latent Period of Sr 89 -Induced Bone Cancer in Mice

A large cancerogenic dose of Sr89 was given intraperitoneally to virgin female CF1 mice. The tumor-inhibiting effect of zirconium citrate was determined by changes in the incidence and latent period of bone tumors. Early intraperitoneal administration of zirconium citrate after injection of Sr89 lengthened the latent period of osteogenic sarcoma, especially when repeated injections of zirconium citrate were given. Lowered incidence of tumors in some groups given zirconium citrate was not statistically significant.
