Bromodeoxyuridine-containing regions approximately 1.5 x 10$sup 4$ nucleotides in length, and at intervals equivalent to the pyrimidine dimer content of the DNA, have been observed in the parental DNA of an excision- defective strain of Escherichia coli exposed to 10 ergs mm$sup -2$ at 254-nm followed by prolonged incubation in the presence of bromodeoxyuridine.
