A core for a fast reactor is designed with means for loading and unloading of fuel elements. The core is constituted by a plurality of adjacent slab-like frame members with guides for the fuel element blocks. A loading station and an unloading station are provided with means for moving the fuel elements into register with the stations. The core can also be applied to a materials testing reactor. (D.L.C.)
