EFFECT OF X-RAYS ON THE FORMATION OF OXIDATION PRODUCTS IN LIPIDS OF CERTAIN RAT ORGANS

The formation of oxidation products in lipids was investigated in liver, kidney, brain, and spleen homogenates of rats exposed to a dose of 600 r, using the thiobarbituric acid test (TBA). Without incubation the TBA chromogen values of the homogenates of the exposed rats did not differ appreciably from those of the controls, only the brain homogenates showed considerably higher values. After incubation for one hour at plus or minus 37 deg C the TBA chromogen of the homogenates of irradiated rats showed higher values than those of the controls incubated for one hour. (TCO)
