REACTOR PLANT CONTAINER INTEGRITY TEST (BUTTERFLY VALVE TEST). Test Evaluation

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4137858
The purpose of this test was to investigate the integrity of the Reactor Plant Air Cooling System 48 inch butterfly valves by means of an air pressure test and a visual inspection. The as found'' leak rates for the supply and exhaust valves were 2.4 and 22 psi/hr, respectively. After tightening the nuts on the packing glands, the leak rates for the supply and exhaust valves were reduced to 0.4 and 1.2 psi/hr, respectively, both of which are less than the maximum allowable leak rate, 4.0 psi/hr. During the as found'' leak rate measurements on the supply valves, leakage was observed around the shaft packing. Because leakage was observed at this point, the packing gland nuts were tightened, further reducing the leakage, even though the as found'' leak rate was acceptable. (auth)
