DETERMINATION OF A 7 x 10$sup -11$ SEC HALFLIFE FOR THE FIRST EXCITED STATE IN THALLIUM 201

Journal Article · · Nuclear Phys.
A halflife T/sub 1/2/ = (7 plus or minus 2) x 10/sup -11/ sec was found for the first excited 330-kev state in Tl/sup 201/. The measurements were performed in an electron-electron coincidence spectrometer by means of delayed coincidence technique. A new method to reduce the influence of energy dependent instrumental time-delays was developed. The K/L/sub I/ + L/sub II/ and L/sub I/ + L/sub II//L/sub III/ ratios for the 330 kev transition were measured by means of an iron yoke double focusing spectrometer. From these measurements the mixing ratio E2/M1 was found to be 2.2 plus or minus 0.4. The transition matrix elements were calculated and are compared with the corresponding matrix elements in Tl/sup 203/. (auth)
