PRELIMINARY NOTE ON THE CUTANEOUS EFFECTS OF CESIUM THERAPY (in French)

Journal Article · · Bull. Soc. Franc. Dermatol. Syphilig.
OSTI ID:4134980
The energy of Cs/sup 137/ gamma is comparable to that of Co/sup 60/, far exceeds that of the other usual forms of radiation, and provides the following properties useful for radiotherapy: relatively high effectiveness at greater tissue depth; homogenous absorption by the tissues; decrease in total dose absorbed by the organism; and relatlvely low skin doses. Cesium-137 (like Co/sup 60/) does not cause burns on the skin surface, and remains almost 100% effective at a level 1.5 mm below the skin surface (4.4 mm for Co/sup 60/). Advantages and disadvantages of cesium-137 therapy are indicated. (H.M.G.)
