An apparatus is designed for detecting fission products in a first fluid carrier medium, particularly the coolant from a water-cooled reactor. The apparatus comprises two parallel, spaced porous plates, means for feeding the first fluid through one of the porous plates to produce a liquid film for the evaporation of fission product gases, means for feeding a second fluid through the other porous plate, and means for electrostatically precipitating the daughter products onto the second fluid. The second fluid is then passed to a detector for measuring the precipitated activity. (D.L.C.)
