METHOD AND MEANS FOR THE DETECTION OF FISSION PRODUCTS IN FLUIDS

The method described for detecting fission products in a fluid carrier medium comprises the steps of scrubbing the fluid with a carrier gas phase so as to produce within the carrier gas phase gaseous fission products, subjecting the carrier gas phase to an electrostatic field, thereby to precipitate ionized daughter products of the fission products, transferring the precipitated solid active daughters to a second fluid carrier medium, which carries them to a radiation detection device. The means described consist of two plates spaced apart, across the surfaces of which the first and second fluid carrier mediums are arranged to flow. There are means for producing an electrostatic field between the plates and for passing a gaseous medium between the plates parallel to the surfaces of the plates. (Gmelin Inst.)
