THE ANGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF SECONDARY $pi$-MESONS FROM 4.5 Gev $pi$$sup -$ AND 6 Gev PROTON INTERACTIONS IN EMULSION

The angular distributions of pi mesons produced in two hundred 4.5 Bev pi /sup -/ and two hundred 6 Bev proton interactions with emulsion nuclei were investigated. It was found that the pions from the 6 Bev proton-induced interactions were consistent with an isotropic distribution in the Csystem while the pions from the 4.5 Bev pi /sup -/ induced interactions had an anisotropic distribution peaked in the forward direction. The degree of anisotropy was larger with smaller N/sub h/ values. (auth)
