THE METALLOGRAPHIC PREPARATION OF PLUTONIUM AND ITS ALLOYS AT LOS ALAMOS

Techniques for preparation of metallographic samples of plutonium and plutonium alloys are described. Photomicrographs are shown to illustrate the use of these techniques. It is noted that binary plutoniurn alloys with 52 elements, including rare-earth metals. alkaline-earth metals. noble metals, and most of the more common elements were metallographically prepared and examined using these methods.
