A program was undertaken to develop extrusion techniques for the production of thin-walled Zircaloy-2 tubing, with internal spiralled ribs. A survey was made of previ-ous work in this area. Several tool designs were fabricated and a series of extrusion tests was ran with both aluminum billets and copper-clad Zircaloy-2 billets. Spiral ribbed tubes were produced in both materials; extrusion results, however, were generally unsatisfactory. A tube configuration was generated which approximated a roundcornered square; further, the pitch of the ribs varied from front to rear of the extruded length. (auth)
