DEVELOPMENT OF RIBBED JACKET TUBING FOR PRTR

Development of ribbed tubing for use in the Plutonium Recycle Test Reactor is reported. A machine was developed that welds either longitudinal or spiral ribs to thin-walled Zircaloy tubing, and a method was devised for coextruding rib shapes and a tubular section. Techniques for welding ribs to thin-walled jacket tubing and for the direct extrusion of ribbed tubing are being developed. (J.R.D.)
