BS>A process is given for producing solid high-molecularweight polymers or copolymers of ethylenically unsaturated aldehydes. The method consists of exposing the aldehyde to high-energy ionizing radiation in an acidic aqueous medium. The medium comprises between 0.001 and 2% acid and is of a pH 1 to 5, and the aldehyde may be acrolein or a substituted acrolein and may be copolymerized with other unsaturated monomers. Several examples of the process are given using acrolein and methacrolein. (D.L.C.)
