Proton 500 Bev Synchrotron; PROTONNYI SINKHROTRON NA ENERGIYU 500 Gev

Descriptions are given of an injector ring using an auxiliary proton synchrotron (70 Bev) 1/7 the length of the main accelerator (500 Bev). The 70- Bev accelerator can perform independently and as a 15-Bev injector with a cycle time 1/5 the nominal. The magnet system has 24 sections with six period rings, each consisting of 44 standard elements of the pair-focusing type and one nonstandard section with 4 increased intervals and 5 magnets. The non-standard matrix has an I shape and does not effect the focusing of the other 44. The basic accelerator parameters and the magnet distribution scheme are given. (R.V.J.)
