COMPARATIVE RESISTANCE OF STRAINS OF CLOSTRIDIUM BOTULINUM TO IONIZING RADIATION. Report No. 5 (Progress) for Period: June 11, 1959 to September 10, 1959

OSTI ID:4124176
Spore suspensions of five strains of Type A, six strains of Type B, and three strains of Type E Cl. botulinum were prepared and standardized. Inocula of 100 million spores per can (202 x 202) of a beef stew substrate were exposed to various levels of gamma irradiation to produce partial spoilage. From the partial spoilage data radiation D values (dose for 90 per cent destruction) are calculated as a measure of radiation resistance. (auth)
