INFLUENCE OF AN IRRADIATED AND NONIRRADIATED HOST ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF POST-IRRADIATION CHANGES IN BONE MARROW CULTIVATED IN VIVO

The effects of humoral factors in the organism on radiation injury of bone marrow cultivated in vivo was studied. Changes in the mitotic index and in the metaphaseprophase quotient were observed. In cultivation of non-irradiated bone marrow in irradiated hosts, the latter (650 r) were found to have a short- term inhibitory effect on the values of the indicators. Bone marrow from irradiated donors was cultivated in irradiated and nonirradiated hosts. The beneficial influence of the nonirradiated hosts on the course of post-irradiation changes in the implanted bone marrow was not very marked. (P.C.H.)
