Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/4122273· OSTI ID:4122273
The production of UO/sub 3/ by the Mallinckrodt ether, TBP extraction, and TBP hexane processes is described. The conversion of UO3/sup to UF/sub 4/ in vibrating tray reactors in a/ two-step reduction-hydrofluorination process is described. A general design study and an equipment layout scheme for a plant for producing UF/sub 4/ are cortained. Thermobalance and modified Fox reactivity tests for evaluating the properties of UO/sub 3/ are described. Spectrochemical procedures for the annlysis of UO/sub 3/, UF/sub 4/, and UF/sub 6/ are reviewed. Methods of treatment for uranium recovery from scrap materials generated during the production of UO/sub 3/ and UF/sub 4/ are dsscribed. The method for the continuous conversion of UF/sub 4/ to UF/sub 6/ in tower reactors is described. The design and operation of a multiple cell fluorine plart are presented. (C.J.G.)
