CONNECTION BETWEEN RADIOPROTECTIVE AND VASOCONSTRICTIVE ACTION OF INDOLYLALKYLAMINES (in Russian)
A comparison was made of the radioprotective effects and vasoconstrictive action of a number of indolylalkylamines. The radioprotective action of the amines was determined by effects on the life span of mice exposed to 700 r x radiation and blood loss following a cut in the tail and effects on isolated rabbit ear were used as an index of effects on vascular tone. Data are tabulated on the effects of a number of derivatives and homologs of tryptamine. Good correlation was found between the radioprotective and vasoconstrictive effects of a number of amines of the indole series. lndolylaikylamines having substitutes in the 5th position were found to have a more pronounced vasoconstrictive action than tryptamine and its derivatives. The administration of serotonin antagonists also impeded the vasoconstrictive action of serotonin. (C.H.)
