EMISSION OF $sup 8$Li, $sup 9$Li AND $sup 8$B FRAGMENTS FROM STARS PRODUCED BY 4.3 GEV $pi$$sup -$-MESONS IN NUCLEAR EMULSION

Nine thousand and three hundred stars with more than 5 black prongs were examined to study Li/sup 8/, Li/sup 9/, and B/sup 8/ fragments emitted from these stars. Thus 90 examples of hammer traoks produced by Li/sup 8/ and B/sup 8/ fragments, 11 examples of tracks produced by Li/sup 9/ yields Be/sup 9/ + e/sup -/ yields He/sup 4/ + He/sup 4/+ n + e/sup -/ and one example produced by Li/ sup 9/ yields Be/sup 9/ + e/sup -/ yields He/sup 5/ He/sup 4/ + e/sup -/ were obtained. The experimental result of angular distribution, energy distribution, and frequency of emission of these fragments is given. Comparison is made between the experimental result and the prediction of evaporation theory on the frequency of emission of these fragments. The effect of the B/sup 8/ fragments on the estimation of the Coulomb barrier of the residual nucleus for Li/sup 8/ fragment is discussed. (auth)
