DRESDEN SAFETY ASPECTS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Eng.
OSTI ID:4119628
The principal objectives in the design of the Dresden safety system were to achieve high reliability for continuity operation and to produce a system shutdown on approaching unsafe conditions. The concept of a dual safety system evolved to meet these basic requirements is discussed. The automatic scram functions that the Dresden safety system provides are described. When both halves of the dual safety system are de-energized all the control rods are insented to shut down the reactor within approximately 2 sec. (M.C.G.)
