Because of the advantages of the Bay apparatus and of time-amplitLide converters, the application of the Bay method to converters working in the nanosecond region was studied. These converters are as sensitive as coincidence devices to the dispersion of amplitudes furnished by the actual detectors. The apparatus resulting from connection to a multichannel analyzer recorder can easily give a distribution of the time intervals between nuclear events. It can be utilized near accelerators because of its mobility, the shielding of its detectors, and the distance that can separate the detectors from the block of the device. It can work in a high particle flux (of the order of 10/sup 4/ pulses/ sec). The apparatus performs at least as well as circuits previously described. The linearity and resolution time (1.5 x 10/sup -11/ sec) are excellent. The improvements that can be made are indicated. (J.S.R.)
